Carson
the Red-tailed Hawk
Carson is a Red-tailed Hawk who joined our education team in 2018. Carson was brought in as a patient because he was the victim of a vehicle strike. When he was hit, he was left there, and his broken wing healed in the wrong position – by the time he was in our care, his wing had healed with a noticeable droop, limiting his ability to fly. He is named after Rachel Carson, author of Silent Spring (1962).
Did you know?
Red-tailed Hawks do not have their signature red tails until they reach about 2 years of age – before that, their tail is dark brown with light brown bands. Their eyes also change color with age - they start off light yellow, and darken to a rich brown.
You can support Carson by symbolically adopting him!
