Tilly
the Northern Saw-whet Owl
Tilly is a Northern Saw-whet Owl who joined our education team in 2020. As an owlet, she was fed a poisoned mouse by her mother and came in with very serious rodenticide poisoning. When rodents are poisoned, they do not die right away - for up to a week, a sickly, poisoned mouse could become a very easy meal for a raptor. With our help, Tilly survived the poisoning, but her immune system is permanently damaged. If she were to be released, she would get sick very easily and would not survive. Tilly is named after Freeman Tilden, who is known as the Father of Heritage Interpretation.
Did you know?
Northern saw-whet owls are the smallest owl found in Wisconsin! Their name comes from one of their many calls, which sounds like a saw being sharpened on a whetstone.
You can support Tilly by symbolically adopting her!
