Storm
the Barn Owl
Storm is a Barn Owl who joined our education team in 2013. She was captive bred at the World Bird Sanctuary in Missouri for the purpose of being an education bird. Barn Owls are extirpated from Wisconsin - this means that they were once found here, but they no longer are. This is due to habitat destruction and rodenticide use. A single Barn Owl can eat over 1,000 mice in a single year, but this can cause death if they pick up a poisoned mouse. Storm was brought to REGI to help us educate the public about Barn Owls’ role in the environment, and why they are important to restore and protect in our state.
Did you know?
Barn Owls are named after their habit of nesting in barns! These owls often nest in human structures, especially ones that are abandoned. Old barns, church steeples and even the backs of drive-in movie screens are all perfect places for Barn Owls to raise a family.
You can support Storm by symbolically adopting her!
