Ruby

the Red-shouldered Hawk

Ruby is a Red-shouldered Hawk who joined our education team in 2013. As a juvenile, Ruby hit a power line and broke her wing in the fall, and it had already healed in the wrong position by the time she was brought in as a patient. Because of this, she has limited flight ability and would be unable to hunt in the wild.

Did you know?

Red-shouldered Hawks are extremely vocal compared to some of their close relatives, like Red-tailed Hawks! Blue jays are known to mimic their calls to scare other birds off from bird feeders. Red-shouldered Hawks are elusive, and generally avoid people out in the wild.

You can support Ruby by symbolically adopting her!
