Morrie
the Turkey Vulture
Morrie is a Turkey Vulture who joined our education team in 2000, making him our second-oldest Avian Ambassador! Morrie’s nest was in a barn that caught fire - he and his sister were rescued before it was too late, and his sister was pulled out first. Because of the extra time, Morrie had worse burns and had inhaled more smoke than her. His burns healed well, but the lasting smoke damage to his lungs would make it impossible for him to survive a migration.
Did you know?
Turkey Vultures are one of few birds who have an incredible sense of smell - they can smell a rotting carcass from several miles away. Their sense of smell is so well-developed that other vulture species are known to follow them to food sources!
You can support Morrie by symbolically adopting him!
