Leo

the Golden Eagle

Leo is a Golden Eagle who was transferred to REGI in 2019 from a facility in Utah. He had multiple wing fractures that had to be surgically repaired with a metal rod, but he unfortunately did not recover his full flight ability and would not be able to hunt for himself in the wild.

Golden Eagles are not found in Wisconsin year-round, but they are occasionally seen in Winter in the Southwestern part of the state. These birds are often confused with young Bald Eagles, but one way to distinguish the two is that the beaks and feet of the Bald Eagle are much more yellow than those of the Golden Eagle.
