Jasper

the Eastern Screech-owl

Jasper is an Eastern Screech-owl who joined our education team in 2013. He was brought in at a young age after being attacked by an outdoor cat. He had many wounds to his face and had to battle an infection due to the amount of bacteria in cats’ mouths. His external wounds healed, but he has lasting brain damage from the attack and would not survive in the wild.

Did you know?

Eastern Screech-owls are masters of camouflage! Their plumage allows them to blend in incredibly well with tree bark. When threatened, they slim down their feathers and hold their feather tufts up straight - this helps them blend in with tree branches.

You can support Jasper by symbolically adopting him!
