Aldo

the Barred Owl

Aldo is a Barred Owl who joined our education team in 2022. She was found in the middle of a busy road on a hot day. Sitting on the asphalt for so long gave her severe burns on her feet, and she required constant care in order to survive. Her feet are still sensitive and no longer have the strength she would need to successfully hunt in the wild. She is named after Aldo Leopold, a naturalist, environmentalist, and conservationist from Wisconsin.

Did you know?

Barred Owls don’t travel much once they have established their territory! The furthest a banded Barred Owl has ever traveled from where it hatched is about six miles. If a Barred Owl’s parents disappear from their nest site, it is likely that that Barred Owl will return to that territory and claim it if one of their siblings hasn’t first.

You can support Aldo by symbolically adopting her!
