While all of our patients at REGI are special, admittedly there are those we get closer to. Sometimes the circumstance or seriousness of the injuries that brought the bird to us are so compelling we cannot help being affected. We have patients that display endless courage and patience during the rehabilitation process. As caretakers, we develop a deep respect for the individual birds and their struggles for survival. Some of our patients are called into service as foster parents to orphaned chicks of their own species, even as they themselves recover at REGI. Watching them care for and nurture chicks not their own is a beautiful experience. It is like having a peephole into some of their most intimate moments. These factors, however, only serve to make us their strongest cheering section upon their release to the wild.

But&it would be nice if they would send an occasional post card!
